How did the journey of being an author start for you?
For me it was not the love of writing, but rather the love of knowledge that spreads as we share it, not just the knowledge, but also love, which led me towards being an author.
What was your first written piece?
This is my first attempt at writing.
What is your current work about?
The book I have penned deals with pregnancy in terms of preparing for motherhood as well as a new-born.
It aspires to make its readers look upon pregnancy and delivery as a natural occurrence rather than a medical event, and it does so by providing simple practical tips on how to make the journey of a pregnancy a beautiful one, which would be remembered for the right reasons.
How did you come up with its title?
During my research and my own experience of my wife’s pregnancy, I realized that there is a huge aspect of pregnancy in terms of the mental well-being of the couple as well as their emotional state which seems to be insufficiently addressed, I decided that the word “Holistic” was the most accurate one in expressing how I am trying to look at the beginning of motherhood.
What prompted you to write it?
When my wife conceived, we both went and spoke to a number of maternity care professionals and others including Vaidyas in order to ensure that we had a pregnancy that was comfortable, safe, and resulted in a natural delivery.
The information we got was quite scattered and in order to ensure that we did not lose it, I began to compile it.
I then realized, towards the end of our pregnancy, that this information could be made presentable and would provide benefit to any couple wishing to start or expand their family.
This was the main inspiration behind writing “Beginning of Motherhood: A Holistic Perspective”
What kind of research did you do for it?
The information shared is from recognized Ayurvedic text and addresses modern requirements of nutrition as well. The following texts/books were used and finally the book was peer reviewed before publishing:-
Bhavprakash
Ashtang haridya
Bhaishajya ratnavali
Sushrut sanhita
Nutritive Value of Indian Foods by National Institute of Nutrition (Hyderabad based institute researching upon nutritive values)
What is that one element in your book that can keep the readers hooked to it?
The balance between wisdom in a general sense to specific practical tips on lifestyle, diet as well as mental and emotional preparation.
What is your target readership for this book?
Anyone who is interested in educating themselves about bringing a new Life into this world, be it couples, maternity care professionals, or even informal caregivers for expecting women.
If you could gift your book to one famous person, who would it be?
Alia Bhatt, because I read somewhere that she is expecting, and if she were to read this book, then I believe it would be a very effective way of spreading the contents.
One activity/lesson/tip that people can start implementing right away after reading your book?
Be mindful of the three most important components of your health during pregnancy Diet, Exercise & rest.
